A small version of a grandfather or long case clock like this was often called a "grandmother," and dates from the 1930's. Signed by famous maker, "Colonial of Zeeland, Michigan," this clock plays the familiar Westminster melody on five tube chimes.
The solid mahogany case has a restored finish in excellent condition. American made, this vintage clock has been professionally cleaned and oiled and keeps excellent time for a week on a winding. The brass movement is signed "Hawina-HWN" which stands for Hans Winterhalder-Neustadt, "Made in Germany." Brass weights, pendulum and the embossed dial are all original.
There are access doors on both sides of the movement, the front door has a working lock. Fluted columns, the arched top and burl lower panel are beautiful.
Size is 15" wide, 11" deep and 73" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
