WOW! That is all you can say after viewing the BEAUTY of this ESTER HORLBECK MILER (E. Miler) Soup Tureen. As many know, Ester was a very well known American Porcelain Artist. She is particularly associated with her signature peachy/apricot and white TEA ROSES painted against a pale green background....and that is EXACTLY what you find on this TUREEN...the most sought after design, painted by one of the most sought after "Turn-of-the-Century", "Belle Epoque" porcelain artists.

THIS SPECTACULARLY MASSIVE Tureen is LARGE -- it weighs about 4 POUNDS! --without the accompanying ladle (truth to tell, the ladle might be a later addition to this set - I bought them together, but as it is unmarked, I cannot guarantee it was part of the original set). This is why you needed strong footmen to attend your dinner parties at the turn of the century, just the weight of this tureen with the soup was a handful :) -- OF NOTE: it has THREE ornate handles curving around the body, and all are in remarkable shape, with only the slightest gilt loss (99+% intact).

The lovely base (without the lid) measures more than 5 inches tall, and over 9 1/2 inches wide at the fullest part of the base, from handle to handle. Add the lidded top, and the tureen measures over 8 inches tall. This tureen is such an UNUSUAL mold, it is hard to measure exactly. Both the the lid and the body of this tureen are painted with Ester's signature peach/apricot tea roses nestled in a nest of green leaves, against a pale green background. Golden borders adorn the outer edge of the lid, as well as the footed bottom of the body. The accompanying ladle is golden as well, but note that it may not be original to the set. BOTH pieces (the body and the lid) are in Excellent Antique Condition, with the gold gilt about 99+% intact. I do note for accuracy just the slightest rubbing to the gold on the handles of the tureen. This Tureen set is marked on the bottom of the body with the William Guerin (W.G & Co.) Mark, Mark # 2, underglaze white ware mark in green, "WG & Co. FRANCE," before 1891 - 1900. The body is signed by the artist E. Miler, as you can see in the pictures. As previously stated, her artwork was best known for using pastel colors of hand painted florals, especially tea roses. Porcelain works of art with Ester Miler's signature (E Miler) are highly coveted and HOTLY collected...This piece is in pristine condition, with no chips, cracks, hairlines, surface scratches, or paint loss. Please note: there is a mold irregularity, like a small indentation at one point of the inner rim...it was quite common with such large pieces, and is pre-firing. The LOVELY condition of this set makes it obvious that this was a CABINET DISPLAY item, and was not used for serving Vichyssoise. :)

Please note: This tureen is monogrammed with the initials "TSJ" with "S" being the prominent middle initial..what a coup if your initial match!! If not, they are a reminder of yesteryear when monogrammed tableware was common, and expected amongst the upper crust of society.

MEASUREMENTS: The lovely base (without the lid) measures more than 5 inches tall, and over 9 1/2 inches wide at the fullest part of the base, from handle to handle. Add the lidded top, and the tureen measures over 8 inches tall.

MAKER: This Tureen set is marked on the bottom of the body with the William Guerin (W.G & Co.) Mark, Mark # 2, underglaze white ware mark in green, "WG & Co. FRANCE," before 1891 - 1900. It is artist signed “E. Miler”.

CONDITION: Excellent Antique condition, with the gold gilt about 99+% intact. No chips, cracks, hairlines, surface scratches, or paint loss. Please note: there is a mold irregularity, like a small indentation at one point of the inner rim...it was quite common with such large pieces, and is pre-firing.
