This hand painted decorative plate features a scenic view of STARVED ROCK which is one of the main attractions of the Starved Rock State Park near Utica ILL, on the Illinois River. This sight is visible today, 85+ years after this was painted, although it is much more overgrown. Although I don't find an artist's signature, it was hand painted at the Stouffer Studio in Chicago, about 75 miles east of Starved Rock. Stouffer Studio was a fierce competitor of the Pickard Studio from 1905-1952. It carries Stouffer mark 10 (1920-1924). Perhaps this little plate was purchased as a souvenir of a visit to Starved Rock State Park. ** This plate measures 6 1/2" in diameter. It is in extremely fine condition with no visible wear. The gold rim shows no wear as well. Whether or not you are familiar with the Starved Rock area, this is a well-executed scenic plate!
