This bowl has a nicely scalloped edge and open handles. The currants and leaves are all outlined in gold penwork. The wide gold border repeats the currant motif in black penwork. The exterior is a pale yellow glaze with a gold banded foot. Artist signed REX., on an unmarked blank, possibly Limoges. Although extremely faint, the bottom is stamped with Donath Studio mark 5 (1910-1915). Holding it at the correct angle, it can be read with a magnifying glass. Donath Studio was a contemporary of Pickard Studio in Chicago, and Donath himself had been employed as a china painter for Pickard before opening his own studio. This bowl measures 9 5/8" handle to handle and stands 2 3/4" at the handles, 2 1/4" at the bowl. It is in very good condition with only the most minimal wear.
