A stunning 14" tall French Cameo Art Glass vase, carrying the D'Argental signature mark. The vase features a snowy, woodland scene; a deer leaves footprints while wandering along a river, with birch trees reflecting in the water. It's a richly etched landscape done in varying shades of rich brown and ochre gold, creating lots of depth to the scene. There is a nice translucency to the glass.
The D'argental signature mark was used in France by Campagnie des Crystalleries de St Louis in the latter 1800's to early 1900's. Cameo glass was made with the D'Argental mark between 1919 - 1925. It represents a line of acid cut , multi-layered art glass. Most of the pieces were designed by Paul Nicolas, a protegee of the famed Galle. Nicolas was chief designer at Galle, and later went on to create art glass under his own name and for St Louis, under the D'Argental name.
This vase has the D'Argental signature mark and the SL for St Louis.
