I'm not certain what the original purpose was, so I refer to this piece as a decanter, noting it has no pour spout.
It was hand painted at the Heidrich Studio in Chicago between 1918-1922. This Chicago studio was operated by Adolf Heidrich from 1915 - 1922. Prior to that period, Heidrich worked as a china artist for Donath Studio in Chicago.
The hand painted design features an array of colorful poppy flowers and leaves. It is unusual to find Heidrich florals, as he is best known for his pictorial scenes, monks and animals. This jug speaks well of his versatility, as this floral design is just beautiful.
This jug stands about 6-1/2" tall, and is about 5-1/2"across base.
The condition is extremely fine....even the gold handle shows no wear.
I did not find a signature, but Heidrich Studio was most likely a one-man operation according to Alan Reed's Pickard Encyclopedia.
Although difficult to see, the bottom is stamped with Heidrich Studio decorating mark 2, in use between 1918-1922.
