What a charming country scene! And what a perfect location for the little cabin- right near the river's edge. Perhaps the people walking down the road are almost home...... The colors are so nice and bright, and the only wear is limited to the high points on the gold border.
The plate measures 9-5/8" across, and carries the Jean Pouyat mark 5a, which includes the patented date Jan 23, 1906, and also has "Hand Painted" written in blue. Artist signed EMILE (possibly Emile Pouyat). This same scene, by the same artist, can be found on a 12" tall tankard which is featured in the "Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges", (plate 582, 3rd edition) by Mary Frank Gaston.
A beautiful work of art on a beautiful blank!
