This is an absolutely fabulous large tankard or pitcher. It depicts a young woman calling out across a lovely pastoral scene. The hand painted scene continues all around the tankard. This beautiful piece bears the signature of artist A. Heidrich (Heidrich, Adolf).
Heidrich's attention to detail is evident not only in the face and dress of the lady, but also in the foliage and background. Notice the hazy church in the distance!
Adolf Heidrich had a china decorating studio in Chicago around 1915-1922. There is also some thought that he worked at the Pickard Studio prior to that. He mainly painted scenic designs, and this one is among his best. It is painted on an American Belleek blank from CAC Lenox, that is very ornately embossed. The pitcher stands 14 1/4" tall and it is about 6 1/2" across the base. It is in exceptionally fine condition. The only thing to call is a barely visible tiny scratch on the side of the woman's dress. No wear to the gold. A VERY SPECIAL PIECE BY A VERY DESIRABLE ARTIST!!
