A Period Collectors Piece. American Bow Front, 4 Drawer Mahogany Sheraton Chest. Chest is in original, very good condition, solid and usable, signed "Samuel S. Noyes (1785-1832), Cabinetmaker, East Sudbury, near The Causeway". The hardware is probably replacement but appropriate. The chest has an overhanging top with corners to conform to the shape of the turned and reeded stiles. Cock beading around drawer fronts, legs are ring turned extensions of the stiles, hand dovetailed construction. Samuel S Noyes is a listed Boston cabinetmaker, found in: "American Cabinetmakers" 1640-1940, by William C. Ketchum Jr., Museum of American Folk Art, Crown Publishers Inc, NY, 1995: & " The Cabinet-Makers of America, by Ethel Hall Bjerkoe, Garden City, NY Doubleday & Co. 1957. Samuel S. Noyes (1785-1832), Cabinetmaker, East Sudbury, near The Causeway. I have both of these books and can make copies of the listings. There is only one known bow-front labeled piece in existence. The label is in the top drawer and is very readable and in good condition. The drawers are also stamped R.P. on the top edge, probably a cabinet-maker working for Mr. Noyes. The chest measures: 42"w x 23"d x 43"h. Many more photos upon request.
