Museum Quality cameo depicting the Penitent Mary Magdalene after a sculpture by Antonio Canova and dated between 1793 and 1796, the original is in the Doria - Tursi Palace in Genoa. The carver just respected the original sculpture and all the details of it. Every thing is superbly carved, her face is so expressive and shows pain and suffering, her body is curved on the cross she is looking at. A real impressive cameo after an incredible work of art made by Canova. A true highest quality cameo of a rarest subject. A real treat for any collector.
