This vintage circa 1950s sugar beads necklace and earrings set is absolutely stunning with bright neon pink sugar glass flowers on glossy black beads. The sugar decoration really pops against the black background. Pink petals, lavender center and green leaves all in excellent condition. Technique is called sugar bead because the fired on glass particles create an elevated glittery and granular texture.
Marked Japan on necklace clasp and clip earring backs, with goldtone settings.
Two of the beads have a small spot where it looked like it laid against something when fired. These are very difficult to notice when worn. One bead has a small round loss to the black, but it is at the back of the necklace.
Clasp is formed from half of one sugar bead. Each medium size black bead has gold tone fluted end caps.
Necklace measures 23 inches long.
Earrings 7/8 inches wide.
Bead sizes are approximately 10mm, 12mm, 16mm. Largest bead is 5/8 inch.
