Offering this 19th century one gallon brown albany slip stoneware jug in a fabulous semi-ovoid bulbous squat form. Albany slip cascades down from the top of the jug, revealing drips and variations in color, with a luminous quality on the top half and ochre colors at the bottom. Jug has beautifully rounded shoulders and a strap handle that starts at the top lip. Dates to about 1842.
Front of jug is marked John B. Caire & Co., Main St Po.keepsie N.Y.
Measurements: 9 inches high, about 9 inches wide at center and 7 1/2 inches on bottom
Condition: Excellent. Has the usual manufacturing marks, but no damage. There is a little wear to the brown on the handle, but it is glazed over, so appears to be from manufacturing. It is a gorgeous squatty jug.
