This fabulous wood and wicker covered box has its original apple green paint, and dates from 1920s to 1930s. The wooden box has woven wicker covering the sides and a shaped handle at the top of the cover. Sides were woven with the much stronger fiber wicker, attesting to its great condition.
Box measures 12 inches wide, 8 inches deep and 3 1/4 inches high. Cover measures 12 inches by 8 inches.
I am not certain of its original purpose, but perhaps a storage box for sewing accessories, letter writing materials or documents.
Condition is excellent. Box has minor wear to the paint on the corners and along the top edge where the cover sits in place. The durability of the wicker is evident, as there are no breaks or damage. There is a tiny loss of wood at the inside bottom of the box at the edge. A small nail can be seen. Loss measures only 3/8 inch x 1/8 inch and is very minor.
Cover has some loss to the paint around the rim and on the handle – nothing major. Inside still has glossy paint, but exterior has mellowed over the years to a matte finish with a crackled glaze. The apple green color is fabulous.
