This antique circa 1900 Native American sweet grass basket has served well during its lifetime as a pin cushion sewing basket. Velvet fabric is a mellowed salmon color, with its original plush nap worn away over the years, but remains in very nice condition. Does have years and years of pinholes showing, but no other damage.
Basket is perfect, with no breaks or damage, a testament to its quality construction, and has a double lashed rim for strength, unusual for these baskets. This is reflected with the V lashing evident from the side and X lashing visible across the top rim.
This wonderful little addition to a sewing tools or vintage basket collection measures only 3 1/4 inches wide and approximately 1 1/2 inches high. A similar basket, but with only a single lashed rim, is shown in Sewing Tools and Trinkets book.
