We lived in Lome, Togo for 3 years in the 1970s and were visited by antique dealers who came to see us. This Dogon door from Mali was one of our purchases. We sold our other large pieces at Christies and we forgot to add the door to the sale. Grainery doors were only allow to be open by men. The door is covered with men, including a large male figure into which the lock fit. Carved from a single piece of hard wood. Measures 38 1/2" high by 19 1/2" Weighs 23 pounds.
