Sauteur was the name given to Renoir's sterling jewelry. Unfortunately, it was not a success at mid-century, and relatively few were made. Everyone wanted the enameled copper jewelry. Luckily for us silver collectors, many of these pieces survived, tucked away in jewelry boxes. They are modernist classics, and their prices are rising. This bracelet is a hinged silver squiggle. 1 3/4" tall at the widest point, 15/16" at the sturdy hinge. Interior length 6 1/2". Diameter across the wrist, 2 1/4", from front to back, 1 7/8". Marked sterling, Sauteur, Renoir. Excellent condition. 1950s.
