This is a classic brooch of two tulip like flowers each topped with a cabochon amethyst. The leaves are finely detailed. 2 7/8" by 1 3/4". Sturdy safety clasp. Weighs 15 grams, or half an ounce.Marked with a conjoined SM (for Serafin Moctezuma) within a hecho en Mexico 925 circle with Taxco underneath. There is no eagle mark or registration number, leading me to believe this is an early piece. Moctezuma was a contemporary of William Spratling, who criticized Moctezuma for choosing a hallmark that upside down looked like Spratling's own. Excellent vintage condition. Rare.
