Scarce and unusual Doris Mexican (Corpus Artisans) mid-century silver costume accessory. These came into the shop without much information and we are not certain exactly how they were intended to be worn. The pieces are handed, (a left and a right), but the clip mechanism is one unfamiliar to us.
Perhaps they are dress clips, or possibly shoe clips, and could even have be intended for use on a man's shirt. (We would love to know). They are beautifully made with bezel set, hand painted porcelain plaques depicting musician courtiers seated in a garden set within octagon frames with marcasite foliate borders.
Each measure approximately 1.87" x 1.62" and carry an impressed mark, "DORIS MEXICO" and SILVER. Approximately weight 41 grams. They likely date to the 1950's.
