19th Century miniature globular lamp having an outer layer of white opaque glass cut to an inner layer of cobalt blue glass revealing circular windows that are framed in gold enamel. The white glass layer is hand painted in a vermicular gold enamel decoration that is sometimes referred to as earthworm décor.
Meal collar impressed with date, Pat'd. July 24. 77 for 1877. Benedict & Burnham patented their wick raiser 193581 on this date. The glass font possibly by Boston & Sandwich. Stands approximately 5" to top of burner. Diameter of glass is approximately 3.5" and 3.5" tall. No damage or restoration. Strong, intact gold vermiculation.
