Loving cups, also called bridal cups were traditionally given as wedding gifts in the 19th century.
This is a choice 19th century Staffordshire creamware bridal or loving cup having a Chinoiserie polychrome decoration with pagodas in a garden landscape long a waterway. The red and green areas appear to have been hand painted within the design, and this may be an example of the early 19th century hand painting process called clobbering. The ribbed applied handles have stylized leaf terminals, and the cup has an all-over light luster glaze with a slightly blue hue.
Stands approximately 5" tall x 8.5" across the handles. No damage or restoration.
