Excellent matched pair of Capodimonte porcelain urns cast in relief with a decoration based in classical antiquity. Circa late nineteenth – early twentieth century.
The two part bolted Campana form urns are decorated in vibrant polychrome enamel and highlighted in gold gilt enamel.
Underglaze Neapolitan crowned “N” mark was used extensively for Naples, Capodimonte porcelain. It should be noted that in the late 19th and early 20th century this style of porcelain based in classicism was very popular. During that time the crowned “n” mark was used by German porcelain manufactories such as Ernst Bohne Sons of Rudolstadt, Thuringia. We have consulted the book by Robert Rontgen, “Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain” and the mark on these urns varies slightly from the marks in the book.
Stands approximately 11.5” tall. Wear to gold enameling at rim and at foot is commensurate with age. An excellent matched pair of urns that will not disappoint.
