A nineteenth century ormolu and jeweled bible or scripture stand having cast reticulated panels supported by Rococo shell brackets terminating with lion paw feet. The hinged top is decorated with an engraved cross and adjusts to a maximum height of 12” with a ratcheted support. The front panel is set with a blue enameled cross with ruby glass cabochon center and flanked by two emerald green glass cabochons. Circa 2nd half, 19th century France.
Measures approximately 12” x 12.25” (across feet) x 4.38” tall (closed position) Maximum height (open) 12”. Expect signs of age and wear including wear to gilt surface. Glass jewels and blue enameling are not damaged and have good, strong color. Hinge is sturdy and ratchet support operates properly.
