A large Limoges France porcelain charger plaque having a hand painted and transfer decoration signed Mauville, circa first quarter, twentieth century.
The lovely decoration depicting a huntsman discovering a beautiful maiden and cupid in a woodland likely has roots in an opera or fairytale story. The decorating firm L.R.& L. for Lazeyras, Rosenfeld & Lehman was apparently the successor to the Th. Lazeyras Decorating Studio.
Measures approximately 13.5” diameter. Lovely polychrome colors and intact gold enameling. Small edge chip in gilt border (see photo) and price has been adjusted for this condition. For more information about the artist Muville, see the book, Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston.
