Impressive nineteenth century bisque porcelain parian ware figure of a kneeling angel holding a shell form receptacle modeled after the Baptismal font Akureyrarkirkja (Lutheran church in Akureyri, northern Iceland).
The baptismal font Akureyrarkirkja by Danish-Icelandic sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770 – 1844) is a work after the original at St. Giles church in Edinburgh, Scotland. Most of Thorvaldsen’s sculptures represent interpretations of figures from classical antiquity.
Measures approximately 9” tall x 7” deep x 4.125” wide. Weighs approximately 5.3 pounds before packing. Excellent condition. Impressed mark “B&G” Eneret along with incised crossed lines.
