"Skyward" was photographed at dawn in a South Carolina rice paddy. Schmitt hid in a blind before dawn (to avoid frightening the birds) and then-when the light seemed right-kicked the side of the blind and tripped is shutter just as the birds whirled upward. As the photograph was made in hunting season, the flock was understandably edgy. Skyward is a dye-transfer print, in which colors are laid down individually on paper of exceptional quality. This dye-transfer method requires much handwork and many steps. The owner will note that the depth and clarity of color in this dye-transfer print make it quite unlike other color prints. copyright 1976 MFGFA.
