This is a breath taking set of (8) 7 1/2" hand painted and individually signed exquisite Limoges plates ~Each scalloped edge is perfect and trimmed in gold coin, not a chip, nick, flake or repair. The roses are a soft pink, against an eggshell thin porcelain.
Highly translucent and when held to the light one can see right through them. The porcelain itself is a very high end antique French Limoges porcelain ~ dating in the 130 year old range~ the old world green accent colors create an extraordinary work of art.
When I see these beautiful hand painted pieces I see each one as a work of art and beauty. I find so much joy in passing on these timeless treasures. They are from a private estate I happened on a few years ago while traveling. I thought about breaking the set up and then after doing the research on them I have decided to keep them together .
They date from the late 1880s and bear the Limoges Klingenberg mark #6 which provides a date of 1890 to 1910~it is the underglaze white ware mark in green. These are factory created and factory decorated. Klingenberg owned a porcelain factory in Limoges and he both made his own porcelain and had his own decorating studio. This particular mark is associated with the studio decorated pieces he created. The history behind these old pieces I find is always intriguing.
When a piece of true antique hard paste European porcelain is purchased the porcelain itself is also of great value. ... the unique ingredients that make the hard paste and the individual firing process of each Limoges, Bavarian and Austrian porcelain creates the most exquisite translucency whereby light can pass thru and one can often see even their fingertips....when the glaze is applied during the second firing process the glass like nature of the glaze forms and now the glaze and the object actually fuses into one piece....it is this very unique quality of the European hard paste porcelain that helps to create it's value....as the decades and centuries pass the true Limoges, Bavarian or Austrian will not become crazed...these creations are not only sought after by collectors for their art work but for the porcelain quality itself. **Thank you for finding our little shop ~ do pardon any glare from my picture taking, all items are described to the best of our ability ~ this listing is only for the hand painted (8) plates as described,~
