Sweet little cherubs are the focus of this antique Limoges 6 1/2" plate. The edges are scrolled with raised edges. The gold itself, is hand painted with a bit of wear commensurate with age. The wear is from the gold being of a softer , more pure blend than what we use today. It has not been touched up or gone over which is good and lends to the credibility of age and original gold....
The back bears 4 marks...which is highly unusual and quite rare. There is a scrolled impressed mark which usually is an artist's mark, then there is the impressed underglaze whiteware mark #4 telling us they manufactured the porcelain and then there is the overglaze decorating mark # 6 which tells us they decorated it as well.
The marks are from the A. Lanternier company which exported , manufactured and decorated Limoges from the mid 1850's...this piece dates ca. 1891...it is very rare to find 4 marks on a single plate...also the very front and its very small is an artist signature for artwork of the cherubs.
This is a very special find and a definite conversation piece for serious collectors.
The condition is excellent with not a nick, chip, crack or flake....an exceptional find.
