"The Life and Work of Van Gogh" written by Carl Nordenfalk. Published by Philosophical Library, copyright 1953.
A straightforward and thoroughly-documented biography of the artist written in a lively style. Many who admire and love Van Gogh's paintings are unaware of the conflict, pathos and tragedy of his life, and this the author presents with great vividness, against the varied environments in which he lived. At the same time he discusses the paintings with a deep understanding and so is able to re-create the drama of Van Gogh's life and work. The book contains some unpublished letters by Van Gogh, and and an introduction by his nephew.
The book contains 72 illustrations of Van Gogh's work.
