A Favorite Horse Story for Young Readers.
"Fair Lady had once been the most beautiful horse Mr. Jeffers had ever known, but rough handling and over training had killed her nerve. If she was ever to regain her former perfection she needed quiet, gentle handling and no riding for a long time.
For help with his ambitious project, Mr. Jeffers turned to Judy. She had been his favorite pupil and an excellent rider, but in summer camp a tricky horse had viciously thrown her and she had been afraid to ride ever since.
As the weeks passed, Judy's natural understanding worked wonders on the skitterish mare. Then one day while walking near the hunt course, Judy spotted a girl lying unconscious on the grass near a jump. Without hesitating, she mounted Fair Lady and together they galloped for help.
But Mr. Jeffers had gambled on more than the recovery of the horse and the girl, and the exciting turn of events which came as a surprise to Judy did not surprise the wise horseman Mr. Jeffers at all!
