Minerva doll is marked on the front plate Minerva and Germany on the back plate. She has a tin head, with stuffed cloth body, bisque hands and legs. Her face and maybe her head parts have been repainted at one time, I don't know for sure. This doll is about 17" tall and is wearing a long green satin dress.
Metal headed dolls were made in Germany from 1888 through the 1930's. They were meant to be more durable, but, many have not survived well, They have a tendency for paint to crack and chip, or the head to rust. Tin heads were sold separate from bodies, so a cloth hand made body is appropriate.
Condition: The head is in good condition. The craftsmanship is very poor on the body, as you can see from the pictures. It may have been done by a child which only adds to the charm of this vintage item.
