This highly embroidered Chinese textile is hand embroidered throughout using the Kesi brocade/woven technique. The embroidery is early 19th century and I estimate the portrait was created circa 1940-50's. The robe fragments have been embroidered to a silk background and the initials of the artist ‘DW’ are embroidered in blue silk thread at the bottom. LOTS of hand done gold metallic thread.
