This gorgeous nightgown looks like it just stepped out of a late 1930s or 1940s Hollywood movie! Custom made in 1939 in New York City for a bride as part of her trousseau for her January, 1940 wedding at the Waldorf. It's all ecru silk with attached and appliquéd alencon lace. The bodice and straps are lace with a smocked gathering under the center bust. The back has a deep V that extends all the way to waist and is trimmed in lace. The gown flows into a wide sweep with scalloped hem and a lace appliqué on the lower center.
This beautiful gown was well taken care of and well stored for the last 75 years and is in overall excellent condition. There is small hole and lace fray at the shoulder as shown which can be easily repaired by your seamstress. There is 1 tiny slub to the silk on the skirt as shown. This gown has beautiful French seams and you can see the custom detail when you look at the construction.
Measurements were taken with the gown lying flat - I would estimate the size to be about a 4 in today's clothing.
Bust, measured armpit to armpit: 31"
Overall length (shoulder to hem): 56"
