A fine English sterling silver ladle by William Bateman, London, hallmarked for 1796. 7 1/4" long, hemispherical bowl is 2 1/8" in diameter, and the piece is in excellent condition with no dents or damage. It is fully hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling, lion head with crown for London, the British duty mark, date letter for 1796, and the Initial PB, AB, and WB for Peter Bateman, Ann Bateman, and William Bateman. The backside of the handle bears the initials R.M.I. A fine piece of early English sterling by a renowned maker.
