A wonderful antique English jug or pitcher from the mid 1800s. The upper portion has a fluted spout, reeded handle, and grapes with vines in relief on the surround. The lower portion has a stippled lavender background with raised acanthus leaves and scrolls in relief. The base is without marks, but there are 2 small impressed marks in the base rim that may indicate the maker. My best guess is Samuel Alcock of Cobridge, Staffordshire, whose pottery produced beautiful molded jugs.
The pitcher is 6 3/8" high.
Condition is very good with a small smooth hairline near the rim as shown in the photo. There is a bit of browning to the pottery in some areas. Otherwise, no chips or cracks or crazing.
