A pair of fine early W T Copeland Imari 9 7/8" dinner plates. These plates have a beautiful center design of flowers and leaves done in rich rust and deep cobalt blue outlined in gold. The gilt edge wide cobalt rims are richly decorated in rust and golds. They are marked on the reverse as shown with Copeland impressed. This mark was used c. 1847.
The overall look of the plates is wonderful. The decoration is bright and vivid and there is only a whisper of loss to the edge gilding. However, each plate has 2 rim chips, and we've included a close-up photo of each. We suspect that these came from someone using a wire plate hanger (never recommended), and someone attempted to color them in. They're not readily apparent, even less so when displayed, but they're there, and we've priced the plates accordingly.
