No chips, cracks, restoration, or even utensil marks on this wonderful antique flow blue plate in the Chen-Si pattern by John Meir, Staffordshire. This beautiful 8" diameter plate dates to the early 1800s, most likely 1812-1835, and has the initials "JM" below the Chen-Si name on the back. The Chinese pagoda pattern in the center is lovely as is the dark blue floral rim pattern. There are 3 stilt marks on the front of the plate - these are from manufacture and to be expected. Before they were placed in the kiln, plates were separated and stacked on "stilts" to allow heat and air to circulate around and between the pottery.
If you love flow blue, Staffordshire, blue and white pottery, or all things chinoiserie, you'll love this plate.
