Outstanding 19th century Chinese water, wine, or rice jug with Song Dynasty style teal green glaze. The glaze if beautiful with its rich and subtly shaded color. The typically shaped spout is secured with a rope and added rounds of clay at the sides. The split handle is similarly attached, and loops of clay surround the jar opening to give strength and decorative elements to the piece. The interior of the pot is glazed in shaded browns.
The pot stands a sizable 10" tall and is approximately 9" in diameter. There are no chips or cracks. The bottom is age darkened and shows some roughness as a result of the kiln firing technique. The rim is slightly off-level, typical or large and thrown pottery. There is overall fine crazing.
