A lovely antique syrup or molasses pitcher c. 1870. This tall pitcher is decorated in the aesthetic style with alternating panels of gold enamel flowers against a purple/red background and butterflies on green and gold leaves against a cream background. Each panel is outlined in gold. The jug has a rope handle and pewter lid. We attribute this jug to Dudson Pottery as Dudson used this handle and shape and was prolific in oriental art, particularly Japanese, decoration as well as gold enamel.
The pitcher stands 8 1/4" tall and has no chips or cracks though there is crazing (see photo of bottom where it is most pronounced) and slight general wear. If you collect antique pitchers, you'll want to add this one to your collection.
