A really beautiful, elegant grande soupiere or large tureen from France, last half of the 19th century. This French faience earthenware piece has a floral, bird, and butterfly/insect motif in vibrant blues, greens, red/pink, and yellows, topped with a fabulous apple finial atop the high domed lid. The applied handles have a shell motif. This gorgeous piece looks amazing on a sideboard or table centerpiece. It stands 10 1/2" tall to the top of the finial and measures just under 12" handle to handle - very impressive. The bowl of the tureen has a top diameter of 9 1/4" and is 9" high. The piece is in wonderful antique condition with no chips or cracks, some crazing and spots of light browning due to age. Overall - c'est magnifique! Marked as shown with the Rouen mark and a somewhat obliterated Sarreguemines script mark.
This piece is quite heavy, weighing 6 1/2 lbs before packing, and shipping will be via FedEx Ground/Home Delivery, insurance included.
