Highly sought after beautiful vintage pair of Virginia Metalcrafters large brass medallion and wrought iron andirons in beautiful condition! This stunning pair stands 25" tall and each medallion is 8" in diameter. Depth is 20".
This larger pair has a pebbled finish on the wrought iron, flat splayed feet, a ball knob at the crook in the iron, and a beautiful flower design, which we believe may be a thistle, in the center of the medallion. (Later manufacture had a smooth finish and scroll feet, no nob at the crook in the iron, and a star-flower in the center of the medallion.)
The irons are marked on the reverse with the VM Betty lamp logo, Harvin, and the number 1039 as can be seen in the last photo. Virginia Metalcrafters was originally a foundry in Waynesboro, Virginia. In 1953, VM purchased the Harvin Brass Company of Baltimore. Under the terms of the purchase, the Harvin name was added to certain designs for several years after the purchase. All VM pieces marked with the VM logo were made in Waynesboro. Both VM and Harvin were known for having superb taste and excellent craftsmanship. VM's long association with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation made their products widely known.
This pair of andirons is very heavy, weighing 28 lbs, and will ship oversize for a flat fee of $50 to the lower 48 US states. Alaska and Hawaii residents, please email us for a shipping quote.
