Fabulous decor items! These antique solid brass shoes or stirrups are commonly attributed to Spanish Conquistadors of the 16th and 17th centuries, when armies wore heavy armor and needed both a solid stirrup to mount their horses and protection for their feet while riding. The Chinese also used brass stirrups for their warriors. This pair is is cast and decorated, and each has triangular openings in the sole where saddle laces were attached. Each shoe or stirrup measures 10 1/2" long and 5 5/8" high. There are no breaks to the metal and they are in very good condition with old patina. These look wonderful mounted on the sides of a fireplace, especially for Christmas decoration, and can be filled with greenery, long matches, or kindling. They can also be used as wall pockets or bookends or anywhere your creativity deems appropriate.
