Shown in Erickson Glass' 1957 catalog, a fabulous asymmetrical ashtray in Erickson's signature very pale lavender color they called Heliotrope. This is a thick walled piece with a sloped design and applied cigar or cigarette rest. The base is ground and polished. It is a great size with lots of presence, measuring 6 1/4" in diameter (6 1/2" if you include the cigarette rest), and 3 1/4" tall at the higher side. It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. There is age appropriate wear to the underside of the base pontil, a few very tiny bubbles in the glass, and a few tiny rubs on the exterior, but overall certainly at least a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. If you love mid century modern or Scandinavian design, you'll find this piece perfect for your decor.
If you're not familiar with Erickson glass, it was founded by Carl Erickson and his brother in 1943 in Bremen, Ohio. Carl and his brother were Swedish immigrants from a family of master glassblowers. Carl worked for Pairpoint Glass for 20 years as a designer, and from there worked at Libbey and as an instructor and designer at Blenko prior to buying the Bremen property. His modern designs, perfectly executed, are highly prized and collectible.
