Duffy's distillery in Rochester, New York started in the 1870s and quickly marketed its Pure Malt Whiskey as a medicine, along with testimonials from doctors stating the medicinal benefits of imbibing in spirits! They even sold their whiskey in medicine bottles to further promote the brand (this was very helpful during the Prohibition era, when pharmacies could sell the "medicine" to consumers). Duffy also promoted its brand with free extras, and the glass medicine spoon given in the 1890s was very popular. Our little spoon measures 3 7/8" long and is embossed with the "Duffy's Pure Malt Whiskey A Medicine" logo on the bottom as pictured. It also has measuring lines around the perimeter labeled "Table", "Dessert", and "Tea" for the various spoon measures. The piece is in excellent condition. A must have for the medicine, advertising, or breweriana collector!
