Simply beautiful and elegant set of antique Steuben glass goblets in Verre de Soie, "Glass of Silk". These goblets were designed by Frederick Carder and finished with the soft silky verge de soie finish that Carder said was his favorite. The glass has a beautiful greenish gold iridescence and wonderful feel. All 7 of these goblets are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or cloudiness or damage. Overall height is 6 1/8" tall, though there is a slight variation in height because they were hand blown. The base diameter is 2 3/4". None appear to be marked, which was standard practice when these were made, but the size and finish are well documented in Carder's line drawings.
Steuben Glass under the direction of Frederick Carder, produced some of the finest art glass in the world, certainly on a par with contemporaries Louis Comfort Tiffany and Durand. Only Steuben produced Verre de Soie, and the finish and touch are immediately discernible by knowledgeable of Carder era glass. These wonderful goblets are becoming harder and harder to find, and a set of 7 in this condition is rare.
