Truly a magnificent antique ice cream set! Our photos just don't do it justice! This is a 13 piece set: one very large center/serving bowl and 12 matching individual bowls (one bowl was too shy to be photographed, but there are 12, all in wonderful condition). The form is that of overlapping shells, all gilt edged and decorated with a pair of love birds and beautiful iris and long blue and green leaves. The set is in very good condition, with some expected loss to the gilding and color at some of the high points. All pieces are marked with "Victoria Pottery Altrolau Bohemia" impressed in tiny letters, and a blue circular mark of a rose with "P H Rosenbach Philadelphia" surrounding.
Dimensions: the center bowl measures 16 1/2" x 10" x 3" high; individual bowls measure 6" x 5 1/4" x 2" high. The set weighs 10 lbs before packing.
The P. H. Rosenbach mark is that of well-known Philadelphian Philip Rosenbach. Philip ran an antique and art store in Philadelphia in the early 1900's, and together with his brother, A. S. Rosenbach, became famous for their collections of rare books, art, and fine antiques. The brothers passed away in the early 1950's, and today their home is the Rosenbach Museum, home to rare volumes and art collections.
This set will be very carefully packed and shipped via FedEx Ground/Home Delivery, and insurance is included. If you prefer US Priority Mail, please let us know.
