A rare antique Nippon chocolate pot set. I've never seen another one with this color combination, and it is stunning. The pot and matching cups and saucers have a black background, coral-orange flowers, green leaves, and gold trim. The set being offered includes the pot with lid, 2 cups, and 6 saucers.
The pot stands 9 3/8" tall to the top of the lid finial. There are no chips or cracks, though there is slight wear to the gilding, mostly on the lid finial. A few very tiny (pin head size) marks on the black body.
Each cup stands 2 5/8" tall. One has a very faint 1/2" hairline on the interior as pictured, and both have some chips to the base rim as shown, though they do not show when displayed. Age appropriate wear to the gilding but nothing major.
The saucers are 5" in diameter. No cracks, though one has a chip to the underside of the rim and there are some of the same pin head or smaller (specks, really) marks on the black.
The cups are not marked, though the pot and all saucers have the same blue "Hand Painted Nippon" mark. We believe this dates to the early 1900s, definitely prior to 1921.
