The Story of the Other Wise Man by Henry Van Dyke, copyright 1895 by Harper & Brothers Publishers. This antique book appears to be a first edition but may be a later printing c. 1918. It is a beautiful story of Artaban, a Wise Man who was supposed to accompany the three wise men on their journey to Bethlehem. The story relates Artaban's journey, the extraordinary events along the way, and raises the issue of whether these events overshadow missing the birth of the Christ Child.
The book measures 7" x 4 1/2", 75 pages, and has its original cloth boards. It is in shabby but readable condition. The covers are worn and their is chipping to the cover plate. The pages are yellowed and have some foxing and stray marks throughout. There is a signed and dated 1921 inscription on the inside cover. The title pages have some water damage.
