Rare Nursery Mug ~ Little Jack Horner 1880
EARLY CHILDS ALPHABET ABC MUG
NURSERY TALES ~ LITTLE JACK HORNER
BROWNHILLS POTTERY CO ~ Staffordshire England c. 1880
This 2 3/4" high x 2 3/4" diameter child's pearlware mug, excluding the applied handle, has a crisp image transfer printed in rich deep red. His cat is painted in golden yellow and his coat in cobalt blue, under the glaze.
In addition to the entire ABC alphabet transfer with the classic Brownhills decorative clover transfer, this mug has a central image of Little Jack Horner sitting in his corner with a plum from his pie stuck upon his thumb. With curiosity his cat watches the act. This particular image is rarely seen.
Condition is very good with a minute flake off the rim and an associated tight hairline. An exceptional nursery mug.
The image is part of the Nursery Tales series coveted by collectors. This transfer, rarely seen on the market, will be a special abc mug in your collection.
Mugs like these were given as gifts to children on special occasions and were used as educational tools, as well. A lovely addition to your ABC collection.
