EARLY DOUBLE ALPHABET ABC PLATE
Staffordshire England c. 1880
This 7 3/8 " plate has a crisp image transfer printed in rich dark brown with great three color polychrome hand painting, clobbering in shades of cherry red, blue and leaf green.
In addition to the entire ABC alphabet transfer along the perimeter of the plate, there is the entire alphabet transfered along the edge of the well of the plate. There is a wonderful transfer scene of a maiden in period dress standing in a field with her milkcow behind her complete with bells on. Delightful imagination !
Because of the rarely seen three color clobbering and this even harder to find double alphabet transfer, this will be a special abc plate in your collection.
Condition is very good with a tight hairline to the rear of the plate and a filled in spot to the rear. Displays perfectly.
Plates like these were given as gifts to children on special occasions and were used as educational tools, as well. A lovely addition to your ABC collection.
