EARLY ALPHABET ABC PLATE
LITTLE STROKES FELL GREAT OAKS
Staffordshire England ~ c. 1840
This 6 1/8 " Franklin's Maxims plate has a crisp image transfer printed in delicious chocolate brown. The plate features a sawtooth type border with the entire alphabet in the most wonderful typeset. The central black transfer is of men in the English countryside constantly chipping away at the great oaks. Magnificent in brown.
Three tiny repairs to the rear of the plate. An extra amount of pearlware glaze over the x + y. A charming ABC plate.
Plates like these were given as gifts to children on special occasions and were used as educational tools, as well. A lovely addition to your ABC collection.
